Liling is one of China's three great porcelain capitals, with a tradition dating back to the Eastern Han Dynasty. Its signature polychrome underglaze technique has been hailed as the pinnacle of Eastern ceramic art. Over the past several decades, Liling porcelain has appeared at many high-profile diplomatic events, leaving a distinctive mark on the history of People's Republic of China diplomacy. In2007, Liling porcelain was granted national geographical indication protection, encouraging local ceramic companies to grow together. On December31,2024, Hunan Province issued the local standard Geographical Indication Product: Liling Porcelain, providing a sound scientific and technical basis, for protecting the geographical indication. Today, Liling porcelain is more than a shining symbol of Chinese diplomacy, it is a pillar of the local economy.
